Saturday was an intense but excellent day for Magda Linette. After defeating Victoria Azarenka in singles, our tennis player also won the first match of the Miami Open 2023 doubles tournament.

What a day it was! First, Magda Linette won 7:6(3), 2:6, 6:4 with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and entered the fourth round of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament on hard courts in Miami (more here ). Then, after a regular break, the 31-year-old from Poznań and her partner Bernarda Pera secured their first doubles tournament victory.

Linette and Pera returned to touring together after nine months. In Miami, their first-round opponents were originally supposed to be top seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, but the latter’s wrist injury forced the Czechs to forfeit. They were replaced by Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani. However, the Canadian and the Brazilian, marked with the ninth number, did not meet the Pole and the American.

Linette and Pera opened the game with a break and advanced to 3:0. Then Dabrowski and Stefani battled to make up for the losses and got a rematch in game nine. However, they did not follow suit. After switching ends, our representative and her partner ended the set with a break, winning it 6:4.

In game two, there was a response from Dabrowski and Stefani. The Canadian-Brazilian doubles tried to get breaks in the third and fifth games, going 4: 1. Then Linette and Pera caught a break, but there was no question of getting back into the game. Their opponents managed to get one more break before using the fourth set ball in the eighth game.

As the match was tied after two sets, the winner was decided by a super tie-break. In this game, Linette and Pera played brilliantly. They took eight of the first nine points to go 8-1. Dabrowski and Stefani could only close the gap. Eventually the Polish-American pair used the third match ball and won the match 6:4, 2:6, 10-5.

Linette and Pera have qualified for the second round of the doubles tournament of the prestigious Miami Open 2023 competition. On Sunday, their opponents will be the German Laura Siegemund and the Russian Vera Zvonareva, champions last year in Miami and winners of the Grand Slam of the US Open 2020.
