Max Verstappen felt like a fish in water in the rain during the final F1 tests before the Canadian Grand Prix. Saturday’s session was interrupted a few minutes after the serious accident of Carlos Sainz.
Friday brought extremely chaotic Formula 1 testing ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. The first session was torpedoed by a monitoring failure, which meant that the drivers were only on the track for a few minutes. The second practice was extended by 30 minutes in this situation, but its end was marred by heavy rain. As a result, F1 drivers didn’t make the most of their Friday races.
On Saturday, as announced by forecasters, follow im. Gilles Villeneuve greeted the drivers with rain. From the start of the session, we had to use rain tyres. Max Verstappen felt good in these conditions, improving his times again and again and leading the F1 field.

As in Friday practice, good times were also recorded by the Ferrari drivers. Midway through the session, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc boasting second and third results, the Spaniard made a costly mistake. Sainz went over speed approaching the first corner and completely crushed the car. This raised a red flag.
After the session resumed, Verstappen picked up the pace again – 1:23.106. At one point, the Dutchman had a 1.6 second advantage over second-placed Sainz, who had to watch the end of practice from the garage. Despite the difficult conditions, Leclerc slightly improved his result. In the end, the Monegasque rider finished second, 0.291 seconds behind the current world champion.
“But the grip is bad,” complained Lewis Hamilton at the end of the session, while at the same time Max Verstappen set lap records. The Briton’s complaints are proof that Mercedes is not feeling well in Montreal. The 38-year-old was only ranked in tenth place. Even slower was George Russell, who finished fifteenth.
Torrential rain meant that five minutes before the end of the tests, all the pilots showed up at the garages and ended their tests prematurely.
