The 32-year-old who was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl in Denmark is now also charged with the unsolved murder of Emilie Meng from 2016.
Police confirmed this at a press conference on Wednesday. The 32-year-old was driving the same car seen in the Meng case, and police have now seized that car as part of the investigation.
The police stress that the case is in an initial phase.
– We have of course investigated whether the accused can be charged and linked to unsolved cases, including the murder of Emilie Meng in 2016. Based on this, the police have charged the man as part of the Emilie Meng case, says Kim Kliver in the police.
In 2016, 17-year-old Emilie Meng disappeared from Korsør in Denmark. Five months later, she was found murdered in a nearby body of water. Learn more about the case here.
The 32-year-old was according to Extra magazine questioned in the context of the Meng case several years ago, without the police then choosing to push the investigation further.
The 32-year-old defendant denies any criminal guilt for the murder of Emilie Meng. This is what his lawyer Karina Skou told Ekstra Bladet shortly after the news broke.
The man is also charged in another unsolved case. This third case concerns an assault in November 2022. He allegedly threatened a woman with a knife and tackled her to the ground.
Police say they are continuing to see if the man may have any links to other unsolved cases.
