No agreement on joint outcome statement of G20 foreign ministers’ meeting – Dagsavisen

– On the question of the conflict in Ukraine, there were great differences. There were differences that we could not reconcile between different parties, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told reporters after the meeting. India says a statement condemning Russia’s war was backed by all countries except Russia and China.

Thursday is the last day of the G20 foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi, India. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was the biggest issue on the agenda.

According to Reuters, the language used in the statement after the meeting is along the same lines as the declaration of war from the G20 summit in Bali last year. It was then said that the G20 was not the right forum to deal with security issues, but it was pointed out that these issues can have significant consequences for the global economy.

– Peaceful conflict resolution, crisis management measures, but also diplomacy and dialogue are essential, the statement said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov blamed the West after the meeting.

– The declaration has been blocked. Our Western colleagues have really bad manners. They don’t think about diplomacy anymore. They just sing and threaten everyone, he said.
