The decision upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calls for an immediate cessation of fighting and demands that Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw its forces.

– want to live

Opening the UN meeting on Wednesday, Secretary-General António Guterres condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24 last year.

– The invasion violates our common conscience, declared António Guterres. He called the anniversary of the invasion “a painful milestone for the Ukrainian people and for the world community”.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said before the vote that UN delegates had reached a decisive moment.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen spoke on behalf of the Nordic countries in the UN Assembly.

– Today, a resolution for peace is presented to us. A resolution asking us to condemn the brutal aggression. This calls on us to support a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the principles of the United Nations Charter, said Løkke Rasmussen.

He said the Nordic countries would respect what they committed to in the charter and urged delegates not to miss the opportunity to vote for peace.
