Pittsburgh Steelers fans on X seemed to believe they found a burner account that they believe belongs to under-fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada this week.
Steelers fans found an account with the username @DannyFootball777, whose profile picture shows nothing but a black Pittsburgh hat on a white background and not only has no followers, but no follows no one either.
The account, however, features a long list of positive tweets defending Canada, which has become a punching bag for Pittsburgh fans due to the offense’s struggles through the first four games of the season.
“Steeler Nation has found a new scapegoat. I wonder how long it will be before the next guy is in the hot seat,” @DannyFootball77 wrote in a post.
“So the o line is an excuse to [Steelers quarterback] Kenny [Pickett] struggles, but the OC is supposed to turn water into wine. It makes sense,” reads another article.
Following the post of the alleged burner account, a Steelers fan account named @PickensBurgh posted a screen recording showing several tweets from @DannyFootball777 and captioned the recording, “Matt Canada really did a brother engraver”.
Another user by the name of @PPP_Benjamin went further and attempted to follow the forgotten password process while investigating the account and posted a screenshot alleging that the supposed burner account was linked to the email address ‘my*******. *****@s*******.***.’
The rumor was finally put to rest in a post from ProFootballTalk after a tweet was posted saying: “To everyone pushing the ‘Matt Canada burner account’ b*******, the Steelers are using ‘steelers.nfl.’ com’ and not ‘steelers.com’ for their internal email addresses.’
Canada and the Steelers will have a chance to right the ship this weekend when they take on the Baltimore Ravens in an NFC North divisional contest.
Earlier in the week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked if he planned to make any changes to the coaching staff’s responsibilities on offense, specifically play calling , to which he replied: “Not at this stage.”
Tomlin acknowledged, however, that the offensive coaching during Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans wasn’t good enough.
