ABO Statement on Safety in Sport
The Ontario Basketball Association (“OBA”) has a fundamental obligation and responsibility to protect the health, safety and physical and mental well-being of every person involved in the Ontario basketball community .
OBA takes situations involving misconduct or mistreatment very seriously. For this reason, the OBA is committed to adopting and enforcing strong, clear and effective policies and processes to prevent and address all forms of misconduct or mistreatment.
OBA policies aim to promote a safe sports environment in a manner that allows for consistent, immediate, appropriate and meaningful action should a problem arise.
They also aim to prevent problems by communicating expected standards of behavior.
If anyone wishes to report an incident or concern regarding misconduct or mistreatment involving anyone associated with the OBA, including but not limited to athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and the parents/guardians of the athletes, it can do this directly to the OBA, who will then do it. determine the appropriate forum and manner of handling the complaint.
The OBA makes the following commitments to a sporting environment free from abuse:
