Shocking! Few expected such results in Friday’s World Cup matches. Another sensation was Latvia, which delighted the entire basketball world.
After having eliminated France, they now put Spain, reigning world champion, against the wall. Latvia has once again achieved the impossible.
This is their performance on Friday at the World Cup. The Latvians had to beat their favorite rivals to maintain their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals. And that’s exactly what they did! They beat the Spaniards 74:69, winning the fourth quarter with 27:11.
Latvia was a team but led by Davis Bertans with 16 points. Rodionos Kurucs added 13 points. The Spaniards missed Sergio Llulla, one of the most experienced players in the team, made only 2 out of 9 attempts from the field.

This is not the end of the unexpected results in this group. Canada are undefeated after the thriller loss to Brazil 65:68 and each team now has a 3-1 record! So the final set of games will decide everything.
Luka Doncic had someone to rely on this time. Teammate Mike Tobey recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds under his name, Doncic himself added 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Slovenia beat Australia 91-80 to end their medal dreams. We already know that Germany and Slovenia will go from group K to the quarter-finals.
This also happens in Group I. Hardly anyone expected that after the first set of matches in the second round, each of the teams would also have a 3-1 record there!
After an astonishing match, the Serbs had to recognize the superiority of the Italians (76:78), and the Dominican Republic, undefeated until then, did not keep pace with Puerto Rico (
Simone Fontecchio scored 30 points and seven rebounds for the Italian team. Another NBA player, Bogdan Bogdanovic, scored 18 points for Serbia.
Tremont Waters led Puerto Rico to a very valuable success. The 25-year-old recorded as many as 37 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists and four steals, bringing the rating to 43! Even Karl-Anthony Towns, author of 39 points, did not save the Dominican Republic from its first defeat in the World Cup.
