It is an unprecedented event. 12-year-old Ivy Buzinhani Brustello became the cadet world champion in weightlifting in the category up to 40 kg. She is the first competitor in history to have won gold at the World Championships before the age of 13.
Ivy Buzinhani Brustello during the competition in Alban Durres obtained a total result of 120 kg. First, 53 kg was written next to her name in the snatch, then 67 kg in the clean, which allowed her to outrun her rivals.
The Canadian’s triumph at the world junior championships is a sensation of great caliber. At the time of victory, she was 12 years and 264 days old, and after all, people up to 17 years old can participate in the championship. Turkish silver medalist Melek Yagmur Sahin, for example, is four years older than Brustello.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has announced that it is a historic event as Ivy Buzinhani Brustello is the first female under-13 competitor to win gold at the World Cadet Championship.
Importantly, Brustello trained in gymnastics early in her sports career. However, she was not convinced by this discipline and chose weightlifting. The Canadian has not yet gained much experience, but from the start she showed courage.
Last year, in just nine months, she increased her personal best from 86 kg to 112 kg. At the world championships, she added another 8 kg. The name of the Canadian must be retained.
