There was a sensation at the WTA 250 tournament on grass in Nottingham on Tuesday. Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia lost to Ukrainian Daria Snigur and will not defend her title.
Beatriz Haddad Maia (WTA 10) put in a fantastic performance at Roland Garros. In Paris, she reached her first Grand Slam singles semi-final. Haddad Maia converted two of four break points in the match, which lasted an hour and 18 minutes. Snigur converted five of eight break opportunities. This is her second victory over a Top 10 tennis player. In the first round of the 2022 US Open, she knocked out Romanian Simona Halep. The Brazilian’s rival was to be Lesia Tsurenko, who however withdrew and another Ukrainian entered the game.
