Belarusian Aliaksei Nasewicz was among the twelve players named in the Polish national team for the U-21 World Cup. Thanks to the efforts of Trefl Gdańsk, he became a Pole.
Aliaksei Nasewicz has been living in Poland since 2018. Before last season, he joined the Trefl Gdańsk team, but due to the limit of foreigners he couldn’t count on regular performances. That’s why activists from the Gdańsk club have taken steps to allow the Belarusian-born volleyball player to play with a Polish license.
All necessary procedures have been completed ahead of the start of the U-21 World Cup, which kicks off on July 7 in Bahrain. The coach, Mateusz Grabda, decided to appoint a 20-year-old striker to the team, which means that he could soon make his debut for the Biało-Czerwoni team in matches for the stake.
– I am very happy that the formalities related to Alex’s change of volleyball affiliation have been successfully completed. We knew that the formalities were going to last, we contacted the representatives of the world federation many times, hoping that we could speed up the process so that Aleks would change his license during the PlusLiga season. However, it was not easy, such decisions are most often taken at meetings of the board of directors of the world federation, and the closest was in June – said the president of Trefl Gdańsk Dariusz Gadomski, quoted by the club’s official website.
– I am very happy that the behind the scenes information from June was confirmed today in the official letter we received from the FIVB and Aleks is already a Pole. This is a very important decision for us in terms of the championship season, but also great news for the Polish U21 national team, with whom Aleks has been preparing for the world championships for several weeks – added Gadomski.
The club had to pay around 100,000 PLN for Nasewicz’s license change. The money went to the accounts of the world federation (FIVB) and the Belarusian volleyball association. In the group stage of the U-21 World Cup, Poland will face India, Canada and Bulgaria.
