The Handball Parliament, the supreme body of the Norwegian Handball Federation, decided in 2015 to introduce a special age limit of 68 for the election of a person to the confederation board or to the commissions chosen by the Handball Parliament.
The proposal received a clear majority in the Handball Parliament in 2015 – with 84 votes in favor and 32 votes against – and was forwarded to the Norwegian Sports Confederation (NIF) for approval. This is stated in a document to which Dagbladet had access.
The context of the proposal would have been to avoid “old man’s business”, according to Dagbladet’s sources, and is an arrangement which the Norwegian Handball Association has already presented and which they also want to introduce at international level.
The current handball president, Kåre Geir Lio, is 68 years old and has therefore already passed the desired special relevant age limit in 2015. He told VG in mid-March that he wanted three more years in this role.
– There are some things I want to do before I finish, Lio told the newspaper.
Lio’s pursuit will be decided at the handball association meeting in Sandefjord from May 6-8.
I was rejected
The proposal for a special age limit came on the table in May 2015, when Karl-Arne Johanessen was president of handball. The following August, Lio reprized the lead role.
