On Monday May 1, a snow danger warning was issued across large parts of eastern Norway, the Meteorological Institute reported on Twitter.
– 5 to 10 centimeters of snow are expected in the most stressed areas.
In coastal areas, precipitation turns to rain during the first part of the day, according to meteorologists.
– Be prepared, drive carefully and use winter tires, that’s the clear call.
Tiddelibom
So for those who last Tuesday again said that “it must be the last snow”, then no.
– In eastern Norway, there are probably a few who could be surprised by sleet and snow early Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to be quite low, so it’s good to be prepared if you’re driving inland or uphill, says Meteorological Institute meteorologist Martin Granerød.
In coastal areas, precipitation is likely to come in the form of rain, but never say never, and a repeat of last week’s snowfall is not unthinkable either.
– It is limited for this to be the case. The temperatures are probably a little higher, but suddenly we find ourselves in the same situation. We are therefore following the evolution of the depression, explains the meteorologist.
Disappointing message to Norwegians
hope lives
On An.no tempts meteorologists with slightly warmer weather from May 8, with temperatures of 16-17 degrees, including in the capital.
The promises, however, are deeply rooted in the mind of the meteorologist.
– It is allowed to hope, he said.
– Around next weekend and the following week, it looks like the temperatures will be slightly higher again between 15 and 20 degrees. It’s hard to say if it works.
If hope is to be converted into a percentage, he estimates that there is a 60% chance of warmer weather, but at the same time a 40% chance that we will keep the weather cool for a bit longer.
In other words, it is not certain that “come, my beautiful sweet” will soon become a reality.
– But the closer we get to summer, the greater the likelihood of warmer weather. Just wait for it to happen, tries to encourage the meteorologist.
The somewhat tenuous hope for warmer weather applies mainly to southern and eastern Norway, but westerners and people in central Norway can also live on in the hope that there will be a slightly warmer in May, says Granerød.
Meteorologists also sent a yellow warning for snow to the plains of western Norway this weekend.
A spring day in the north
Even in northern Norway, the outlook for an impending warm spring is not particularly good.
However, residents of Nuvsvåg in Troms and Finnmark got a taste of spring on Friday when the thermometer suddenly dropped to 14 degrees.
– It was a dry wind which made it relatively warm yesterday. But it’s not as hot today, says Granerød.
In northern Norway, mainly in northern Nordland and southern Troms, a danger warning was issued this weekend for snow in higher areas.
Vegtrafikksentralen warns against switching to summer tires as soon as possible.
– There will be up to 10 to 20 centimeters in 24 hours, mainly in the mountains, which may be enough to cause difficult driving conditions in late spring, writes the Meteorological Institute in the danger warning.
The snow line will be between 100 and 300 meters above sea level.
