In Bogota (WTA 250) Eugénie Bouchard joined the competition. The Canadian tennis player earned her first victory in the main round of the year. Surprisingly, third seed Nuria Parrizas Diaz was eliminated.
Eugénie Bouchard (WTA 327) is a Wimbledon 2014 runner-up. She was ranked fifth in the past. Health problems have meant that the Canadian has played little in recent seasons. She started 2023 with two launches at the antipodes. She qualified in Auckland and the Australian Open. In New Zealand, she beat Ann Li, but withdrew from the rest of the competition due to food poisoning. In Melbourne, she was eliminated after the first game.
Bouchard is participating in a tournament in Bogota this week. On Monday, she beat Ylena In-Albon (WTA 137) 6-3, 6-2. In 77 minutes, the Canadian defended five of seven break points and used six of 10 break chances. She picked up her first main round win since October last year, when she beat American Kayla Day in Guadalajara.
Bouchard’s next opponent will be Kamilla Rachimova (WTA 90), who won 7-6(3), 6-3 over Raluka Serban (WTA 155). The Cypriot representative squandered the break advantage in both sets. In the first she led 4:2 and in the second 3:0 and had two break points to make it 4:0.
