Yelena Rybakina broke into Rome (WTA 1000). Kazaszka survived Jasmine Paolini’s onslaught and gave the Italian no chance in the second set. Canadian Bianca Andreescu was helpless in the encounter with Czech Marketa Vondrousova.

On Friday, Yelena Rybakina (WTA 6) started her third performance in Rome. The Wimbledon champion defeated Jasmine Paolini (WTA 65) 7-6(4), 6-1. In the first set, Kazaszka lost four consecutive matches 3:0. Finally, there was a tiebreaker. In it, Rybakina won five points in a row from 2 to 4. There were no such emotions in the second part. The favorite lost the only match 4:0.

Tennis players spent 94 minutes on the court. Rybakina sent six aces. She saved six of her nine break points and converted five of her seven break points. It was the first meeting of these tennis players. Kazaszka advanced to the third round in Rome for the third time. This equals his best result of 2020 and 2022.

Marketa Vondrousova (WTA 70) defeated Bianca Andreescu (WTA 31) 6-0, 6-1. The 2019 US Open Canadian champion was completely helpless. In 55 minutes, she scored only 27 of 83 points played (32.5%). She had no chance of breaking through. The Czech used six of 12 break points. Vondrousova, who has health problems behind her, is a finalist at Roland Garros 2019 and a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics (2021). Her next rival will be the Greek Maria Sakkari.

Camila Giorgi (WTA 37) won 6:4, 6:2 with Yekaterina Aleksandrova (WTA 22). In 89 minutes, the Italian scored 29 points out of 38 on her first serve. She saved two of three break points and converted four of 11 break points.

Jelena Ostapenko (WTA 20) defeated Sorana Cirstea (WTA 34) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. In the match, which lasted two hours and 14 minutes, the Latvian knocked out nine of 13 break points and turned six of 17 chances into breaks. Elise Mertens (WTA 26) lost 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 to Anna Kalinska (WTA 57). The Belgian got up to fight and with 4:6, 0:2 led to the third set. In this one, she led 2-0 before losing six of the next seven games. Kalinska will be Rybakina’s next rival.
