On Sunday, the ranking of the prestigious WTA 1000 hard competition in Miami was drawn. Iga Świątek, defending the title, and Magda Linette met their potential opponents.

The top seeded Miami Open 2023 was Iga Świątek. The WTA ranking leader will start the fight in the second round, as she received a bye at the start. Her first rival will be the American Claire Liu (whom the Pole defeated in Indian Wells) or the Czech Katerina Siniakova (currently the best doubles player in the world).

Will Świątek play with Rybakina again?

Świątek was in the top quarter of the tournament standings. The first seeded tennis player on the way could be the Italian Martina Trevisan, who does not shine on the hard courts. In the fourth round, there may be Latvian Jelena Ostapenko or Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Already in the quarter-finals, it is possible to meet Jelena Rybakina, with whom our tennis player has a score to settle. This year, the well-equipped Kazaszka proved better than Świątek at the Australian Open Grand Slam and the prestigious Indian Wells tournament. The 2022 Wimbledon champion will advance to the quarter-finals in Miami if she finds a way, e.g. tennis players such as Paula Badosa from Spain, Petra Martić from Croatia and Daria Kasatkina from Russia.

The most important issue, however, is Świątek’s health. After dropping out of the Indian Wells competition, our rep admitted she was complaining of a rib injury. He will undergo additional tests in the coming days. As of now, his name is in the tournament bracket and there is no decision to leave the game.

Famous faces on the Linette route

Magda Linette was seeded with the 20th number and found herself in the second quarter. She, too, received a free bundle to start with. In the second round, the tennis player from Poznań will face the well-known American Bernarda Pera (with whom she achieved very good results in doubles) or the Russian Yevgeniya Rodina. In the next phase, the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the Italian Camila Giorgi or the Estonian Kaia Kanepi could wait.

If Linette passes in the fourth round, the bar will go even higher, because she can get in her way, among other things. one of the Americans – Jessica Pegula or Danielle Collins. In the possible quarter-finals, the American Coco Gauff or the Russian Lyudmila Samsonowa may already be waiting.

Big success in the first round

There will certainly be no shortage of emotions in the matches at the bottom of the tournament standings. Already in the first round there will be a duel between the champions of the US Open, because the Briton Emma Raducanu and the Canadian Bianca Andreescu will face each other. The winner will play for the prize with… Greece’s Maria Sakkari. In the third quarter, there was also the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the Swiss Belinda Bencic and the Czech Petra Kvitova.

Aryna Sabalenka, who is in great form this year, will play with the “two” in Miami. The Belarusian went to the fourth quarter of the tournament standings. Already in the fourth round, she can face the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, whom she easily beat in Indian Wells. In the possible quarter-finals, a tennis player from Minsk could, for example, wait for the French Caroline Garcia, the Russian Weronika Kudermetowa or the Czech Karolina Pliskova.

The top 32 tennis players in the Miami Open 2023 rankings have received a bye to start and will start the competition from the second round (Thursday or Friday). The rest of the players will start on Tuesday or Wednesday. Recall that another Pole, Magdalena Fręch, has a chance to play in the main tournament, which successfully inaugurated the two-stage elimination game on Sunday (more here).
