She took a 6-5 lead in the second set and served. The Egyptian led in a tie-break, and in it she jumped to 5-0 and didn’t let herself be denied the promotion.
Elise Mertens (WTA 29) beat Rebecca Marino (WTA 79) 6-3, 6-1 in 76 minutes. The Belgian scored 21 out of 30 on her first serve. She converted six of her 11 break points. Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA 35) scored four breaks and won 6:4, 7:5 Karolina Muchova (WTA 52).
