Abba Lasse Wellander guitarist dies
Swedish musician and Abba guitarist Lasse Wellander has died aged 70. This is stated by his family on Wellander’s Facebook page.
– It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep, they write.
According to the family, he recently fell ill – it turned out to be cancer that had spread – and early on Good Friday he died with his loved ones around him.
– You were a fantastic and humble musician like few, but you were above all a great man, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, they write further.
The family describes him as kind, reliable, caring and loving.
– And so many other things, which cannot be described in words. A center in our lives, and it is unimaginable that we now have to live without you.
Wellander was a long-time guitarist for the popular and world-famous Swedish pop group Abba.
He played with the band both in the studio and on several tours in the 1970s and afterwards, writes the Swedish Aftonbladet.
He has also been seen and heard with other big names in Sweden, including Peps Persson’s Blues Quality band and Björn Skifs fronted band Zkiffz, the newspaper writes.
He also made a foray into the dance group Vikingarna on their farewell tour in 2004.
