Tormod Sandstø moves from Telenor to start-up Aker

Becomes director of communication in a start-up and a technology company.

– I spent seven very good years at Telenor, with many exciting communication tasks, challenges and good colleagues. Nevertheless, it seemed right to seize the opportunity to do something new after discovering AION and its strong ambitions in the field of circularity, says Tormod Sandstø in an AION press release.

The company is a start-up and technology company under Aker that will help companies to reuse circularly in their business.

AION was established in the fall of 2020 as a separate company under Aker BioMarine, where through innovative technology, data collection and tracking, the goal is to help increase the use of plastics recycled in new products, to further reduce emissions and resource use. During the fall, the company recruited several key employees to continue its growth, and now Tormod Sandstø is employed as a communications and external relations manager.

Sandstø says he was excited about the work when he met Runa Haug Khoury, who was previously director of sustainability at Aker BioMarine, and who was previously director at Bellona. She is now CEO of AION.

– We share a vision of how communication should work to achieve its objectives. It will be both educational, challenging – and fun!, says Sandstø in the press release.

Sandstø is a media specialist in the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo. Prior to his role at AION, he was Chief Information Officer at Telenor Group, and previously served as Press Officer at SAS and Communications Advisor at Norgesgruppen ASA.

AION has developed its own technology platform to be able to track the plastic and document the environmental effect for its customers.

– With Sandstø in the team, we get a strong and motivated Communications Director with experience in some of Norway’s biggest companies. We are extremely happy to have him contribute to the journey we and AION have in store,” said Haug Khoury, CEO of AION.

She says thought leadership and a fearless, clear voice on circularity should be AION’s DNA.
