Mike Hammond was one of the most important characters in “Team GB”. The Nottingham Panthers player has scored goals, among other things, in the extra-time victory against Poland or in a very important clash with Italy.
The hockey player died in a car accident in Canada while vacationing with friends on Shawnigan Lake.
“British hockey is devastated by the death of striker Mike Hammond. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all his teammates. Rest in peace Hammy. We will never forget you,” read a touching entry on the official Great Britain national team account.
This is the second tragic news for English ice hockey in less than a month. On June 24, the body of Alex Graham, 20, a young British international, was found in Dronfield.
