Can an anonymous profile on Instagram affect the fate of competition in world Cup? Can it cause confusion which will decide the Olympic medals, or contribute to a decline in the form of the jumpers, or even to the dismissal of the staff? cause fury trainers and players from different teams? Sure.
I’m talking about the Onkonalka profile held by two former jumpers, and now passionate about show jumping in Finland. – Yes, we know that sometimes we infuriate coaches and jumpers. The funny thing is that we have not yet received any negative comments from them – tells us one of the people who manage the profile.
– We are former ski jumpers who ended their careers and started jumping for fun after a break. Currently, we also practice the Nordic combined. Niilo is a teacher, me [Heikki – red.] I am a physiotherapist. I worked with ski jumpers and Nordic combined as a physiotherapist – explains the co-creator of the profile, which has more than a thousand followers on Instagram. But it’s not about the number of followers, it’s about who visits the profile.
They wired Żyła a year ago, Jukkara started watching us
Onkonalek’s profile became popular in the environment a while ago, but Polish jumpers felt it a year ago, when a recording of the jump of Piotr Żyła from Kuusamo appeared on Instagram “stories”, in which it is obvious that the Pole’s outfit is too big. And it started.
Shortly after, during the competition in Wisła, Mika Jukkara – the equipment controller for the 2021/2022 season – carefully checked the Poles’ overalls and had doubts about the team’s outfits. coach Michal Dolezal. Meanwhile, as a warning to Whites and Reds, Paweł Wąsk was disqualified. This introduced a nervous atmosphere to the team, which not only had a bad start, but then had major problems with fitting the equipment. And when it was the right one, the problem was to pass the check. This angered Adam Małysz, who intervened with the equipment controller.
It was understood in our team that the Jukkara inspections were the result of whistleblowers. Whose? Officially unknown. We can guess it from the German team led by Stefan Horngacher. But there were also voices that Jukkara was inspired by Onkonalka’s messages.
Onkonalek’s profile also highlighted the Germans’ extremely extensive outfits during the Four Hills Tournament. The effect was that right after the tournament Markus Eisenbichler was disqualified. – Mika Jukkar He really didn’t have much power. He therefore resigned after a year. The best rumor was that Canada had won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the Olympics thanks to our videos [kontrolerka sprzętu Agnieszka Baczkowska dokonała aż pięciu dyskwalifikacji w konkursie – red]. The bottom line is that the controller could disqualify anyone if they wanted to. But it’s not possible because of the show… – Fin spreads his hands.
Now the Norwegians have thrown their weapons against Żyle
During the ongoing 71st 4-Hills Tournament, the discussion about jumpers’ outfits erupted again. In Ga-Pa, he was disqualified Marius Lindvik. Of course because of the costume. Raison? Two centimeters too wide at the waist. The Norwegian didn’t hide his fury, and Norwegian pundits immediately started accusing Piotr Żyla that his suit looks way too big in the crotch. If you look at the photos, you can actually get that impression. How then does the outfit pass inspection every time? This is the result of new regulations introduced before the season. And although these were meant to stop manipulation, they became an ideal tool for technological combat.
– The equipment rules and the control itself are the biggest joke. In summer, we always say that next year will be different, but now ski jumpers are able to cheat even more than last winter. This season, it seems like everyone has a really great costume and nobody gets disqualified, so that’s pretty fair.”
And he adds: – Changing the rules in the fall was stupid. In Finland, we developed wetsuits all summer, but after the rules changed, they couldn’t be used anymore, so we had to start over. The loss of money was quite significant. In Finland we don’t have unlimited resources and I think all the teams have lost a lot of money.
Why does Piotr Żyła have such a great suit, and it complies with the regulations?
Before the current season FIS Controllers take two measurements. First, the jumper was measured in a lying position with their legs touching the wall, then in a seated position with their legs bent at a 45 degree angle. The inseam height of the suit is now derived from the lying torso length, from which the seated torso length (head to buttocks) is subtracted.
The FIS wanted to avoid manipulation resulting, for example, from stuffing underwear with sponges and other materials. Also, the sitting position needed to be more aligned with the starting bar. However, the reality turned out to be different, and if someone “sat to control”, he managed to “shrink his legs” by a few centimeters. This lowers the inseam, which is why now all the main jumpers suits look too big, but in fact they are within measurements. – Measurements are the biggest problem. If we did a 3D scan of the player’s body, then there would be very little room for measurement manipulations, say the creators of the Onkonalka profile.
– This season, the measurement protocol was supposed to be much more restrictive, but the suits have become even bigger. After all, jumpers get better all the time, and so does equipment. And that’s why, for example, in Lahti, we had to do more starting beams (now we have minus 1 and minus 2) on accidentif there was even a slight wind under the skis. We had this situation in Kuopio many years ago. Ski jumps are becoming obsolete because jumpers are too good, the founder of jumping profile Onkonalka tells us on Instagram.
Equipment controls need to be changed. Volunteers Fin: I’m in!
The role of material controller in ski jumping is an extremely thankless job. Today, the rules are constructed in such a way that without a complete reset and the introduction of new rules, the controllers are unable to control what happens on the hill. Ah, hardware controller christian cathol he admits he doesn’t like wetsuits, but the main rules for this season were set in May, before he joined the FIS. And further changes can only be made after the 2022/2023 season.
We asked Heikki of the Onkonalka profile if he wouldn’t see himself in the role of a hardware controller, since he is so good at reporting manipulations on the Internet. “I guess my place is more in the medical team. I try to improve myself Results athletes, but if there was a chance to try some equipment control stuff, so be it. I’m in. And if they release me, then I shut up, laughs the Finnish physiotherapist.
And finally he adds: – Maybe there should be a bigger team in general or even a whole council to control the equipment and the rules?
