Sick Jakob Ingebrigtsen withdrew from New Year’s race
Jakob Ingebrigtsen was supposed to celebrate the New Year in shorts and a training shirt during the five-kilometre ‘Cursa dels Nassos’ street race in Barcelona tonight.
But neither he nor his brother Filip Ingebrigtsen showed up at the starting line.
– Jakob had a sore throat last night, explains his agent Daniel Wessfeldt to NRK.
Yngstemann Ingebrigtsen tried to run a short lunchtime run, but the irritation in his throat was still there.
“Then he chose to cancel it,” Wessfeldt said.
Videos on social media show Ingebrigtsen didn’t have to spend New Year’s Eve in bed. Despite a sore throat, he showed up on the runway to take photos and sign autographs for fans.
For Filip Ingebrigtsen, other problems arose.
– Filip had a stomach ache last night, so only Henrik and Karoline ran, says the Swede.
Henrik Ingebrigtsen couldn’t stay long with the tight group and finished in 13.58. Adisu Girma won the race in 13.25.
Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal has had a solid season, with the Norwegian record in the 5000 meters (14.31.07) as the highlight. She was among the favorites in the women’s category, but couldn’t catch winner Ejgayehu Taye Haylu, who finished in 14.21.
Bjerkeli Grøvdal’s finish time was 15.06, six seconds behind his personal best in the five-kilometre street race.
