Croatian Donna Vekić easily dismissed American Emma Navarro from the WTA 250 tournament in Monterrey. China’s Lin Zhu has a 300 bout behind her.

Four second-round matches have been played in Monterrey. In the quarterfinals, Donna Vekić (WTA 31) won, beating Emma Navarro (WTA 134) 6-3, 6-2. In 80 minutes, the Croatian defended nine of 11 break points and used six of 13 break points.

Vekić’s next opponent will be Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 96), who won 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-3 over Kamilla Rachimowa (WTA 97). In the first set, the Belgian lost three games in a row from 5-3, but was ahead in the tie-break. In the second game she didn’t have much to say, but in the third she regained her balance and crushed the opponent’s resistance.

Lin Zhu (WTA 41) defeated Rebecca Marino (WTA 74) 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 after two hours and 19 minutes. The Canadian served 11 aces and used four of her 15 break points. The Chinese converted three out of nine chances to break. She scored four more points (104-100) and took her record against Marino to 3-1. It was their second encounter in 2024. At the Australian Open, Zhu won 6-2, 6-4.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (WTA 100) knocked out Czech second seed Marie Bouzkova to open the tournament. In the second round, the Slovak lost 2:6, 4:6 to Caroline Dolehide (WTA 206). In 77 minutes, the American scored 33 out of 41 points on her first serve. She repelled two break points and converted three of her seven break points. Dolehide will meet Zhu in the quarter-finals.
