The head of the Storting’s justice committee wants the use of TikTok on government cellphones banned.
– The proposal is fully drafted and only needs to be handed over, says the head of the Justice Committee in the Storting, Per Willy AmundsenFor The daily.
The PRF proposal must cover the entire machinery of government. Thus, it will prohibit all members of the government, secretaries of state, political advisers and ministry employees from having TikTok on their work phone.
The proposal put forward this week comes shortly after Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl (Esp) used TikTok. After months of questioning, Mehl finally admitted she had had the controversial Chinese app on the minister’s cellphone for just over a month.

Several EU countries are also introducing a ban. Last week, the European Commission introduced a ban on downloading TikTok to work phones for all commissioners and employees of Europe’s huge bureaucracy. At the same time, the Danish security authorities took a similar decision. Before Christmas, President Biden signed a ban in the United States. Canada also bans Tiktok on the phones of government employees.
– We must help the government understand the seriousness, says the head of the justice committee Per-Willy Amundsen.
Tiktok is owned by China’s ByteDance, and in recent months there have been concerns in Western countries about the degree of access Chinese authorities have to user data collected through the app.
