Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe are the 2023 US Open champions! In the doubles final, the Canadian and New Zealander defeated the favorite German-Russian duo – Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonaryova.

The men’s singles final is not the only one scheduled for the last day of competition at the 2023 US Open. The women were competing for the doubles title. Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe faced Laura Siegemund and Wiera Zwonariowa.

The favorite of this match was the second of the mentioned couples. The German and the Russian triumphed together in New York in 2020. Their opponents have never won a Grand Slam title. For the New Zealander, the final at Flushing Meadows was a huge success and certainly the biggest achievement of her career so far.

Dabrowski and Routliffe were the first to face a difficult moment. They had to defend four break points in the fifth game of the match. They did it. Subsequent actions were dictated by the servers. We could see several points end in spectacular and effective volleys.

The fate of the first match was decided by a tie-break, which turned out to be very nervous on both sides. The Canadian-New Zealand pair quickly took a 4-0 lead. However, Siegemund and Zwonariowa did not give up and made up for their loss. The ending itself was very moving. Stop ball for stop ball, error for error. In the end, Dabrowski and Routliffe prevailed 7:6(9).

A Canadian and a New Zealander followed suit. At the start of the second set, they tried twice to break their opponents’ serve. The third game of this match was particularly impressive. The less experienced pair played offensively and on their own terms. The rivals got a return break, but to no avail.

Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe probably played the next matches. At the very end, they once again beat Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva and win the doubles title at the 2023 US Open! Who knows, maybe the first set tie-break turned out to be absolutely decisive.

For both tennis players, this is the first Grand Slam tournament won in their careers. Remember that Erin Routliffe was Alicja Rosolska’s usual doubles partner. Gabriela Dabrowski is a tennis player of Polish origin.
