After the end of the world championships in Riga and Tampere, the preliminary groups for next year’s championship have been selected. The Polish hockey team was waiting for this news.

Poland were promoted to the top flight at the Division 1A tournament in Nottingham. The White-Reds with a total of 13 points took second place. Thanks to this, in addition to the best Great Britain (14 points), they were promoted to the highest level of the competition.

The elite world championships, which took place on the ice rinks of Riga and Tampere, ended on Sunday. Canada won gold beating Germany 5-2 in the final. Once the final decisions were made, the latest IIHF rankings were released.

It is on the basis of the world ranking that we were able to know the preliminary compositions of the groups of the elite world championships next year. In 2024, hockey players will compete on the rinks of Ostrava (Ostravar Arena) and Prague (02 Arena).

Poland have been assigned to Group A, which will face off in Ostrava. This is good news for fans, as the city is located near the Polish-Czech border. The Biało-Czerwoni will play with this year’s World Cup medalists, namely Canada, Germany and Latvia. In addition, Sweden, Slovakia, France and Kazakhstan will stand in their way.

The layout of the two groups is preliminary at this time. According to the organizers, there may still be minor changes. The final schedule and group split will be approved at the IIHF Congress, which will take place October 5-7, 2023 in Vilamoura, Portugal. After the announcement of the official announcement, the sale of tickets for the World Cup, which will be played from May 10 to 26, 2024, will begin.
