The Hockey World Cup is underway. 16 Elite teams competed in the Czech Republic. The teams are divided into two groups. The top four teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals. Teams ranked 5-7 have been eliminated from the competition, but will retain their place in the Elite. However, teams ranked eighth will be relegated to Division I.

The Poles were in Group B with France, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Germany, Slovakia, USA and Sweden. After seven defeats, they said goodbye to Elite. The group competition is already over. Now for the knockout matches. The third place match and the final will take place on May 26 in Prague.
The Canadians defend the title. A year ago, in Tampere, Finland, they beat the Germans in the grand final.
