World Hockey Championships: Match results from Thursday – May 16

Austrian hockey players sensationally beat Finland 3-2 in Group A of the Elite Hockey World Championships, which are taking place in the Czech Republic. In the second match of this group, Canada won the defending trophy against Norway 4-1. In the “Polish” group B, Sweden won against Kazakhstan 3: 1 and the United States beat France 5: 0.

The Austrians lost 0-2 after the first period, then scored three goals and conceded none. Benjamin Baumgartner scored the winning goal 0.2 seconds before the final siren. It was the team’s first international victory against Olympic champions Finland. The Austrians lost to Canada in overtime on Tuesday, but earned a point by scoring five goals against the defending champions in the final period.

In the other Group A match, Canada recorded its fourth victory of the tournament, 4-1 against Norway, and returned to the leadership position.

Sweden leads Pool B with all points. The “Trzech Korona” team won 3:1 against Kazakhstan. In turn, the United States team, which led 4-0 after the first period, controlled the contest and eventually won 5-0.

Poland did not play and will face the United States national team on Friday.
