Rugby Canada and members of the provincial federations took a very exciting direction at a workshop in Calgary from November 3-5, 2023, uniting as one team for the growth and improvement of the sport into the future .
Senior management representatives from the provincial rugby federations and Rugby Canada discussed important topics including a new strategic direction for Rugby Canada and the roles each provincial federation will play collaboratively to achieve success across Canada. The journey of high-level players was also given close attention, including an in-depth technical session, and the group sought to provide direction on the development of a national growth plan.
Everyone agreed that one of the core values of Rugby Canada’s new strategy should be unity – we are one country, one community, one team. To this end, the workshop concluded with a joint declaration signed by all participants – the Calgary Commitment:
In Canada, we play rugby together, we learn together, we build together, we win together and we fail together. We celebrate each other’s successes and support each other in our defeats. Across the country, everyone has a role to play in the success of our national team.
“This workshop was an important opportunity for Rugby Canada and our provincial federations to come together to discuss some of our collective challenges and ambitions,” said Rugby Canada CEO Nathan Bombrys. We came away realizing that we all want the same thing: to see rugby in Canada reach its full potential. Together, as one team from coast to coast across Canada, we have collectively taken the first steps on the path to our new strategic direction. »
