Hugely Popular South Korean Netflix Series “Squid Game” Receives 14 Nominations for 74th Edition The Emmy Awards.
The series, which has set viewing records around the world, is the first non-English language series to be nominated in the Best Drama Series category. So says NRK series reviewer Sigurd Vik.
– I feel so happy and honored. I hope this will open the doors for us to enjoy and appreciate each other’s content across cultural and language barriers,” said creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, according to entertainment tonight.
The US award is considered the television version of the Oscars. Golden statuettes will be awarded to those who have stood out the most in front of and behind the camera over the past year.
The nominations were announced today. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Melissa Fumero and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” comedian JB Smoove announced the nominations for this year’s awards show.
The family drama “Succession” has 25 nominations and is the series with the most nominations. This is followed by the football comedy “Ted Lasso” and the comedy-drama “The White Lotus”, which both received 20 nominations.
Close behind is comedy series “Hacks” with 17 nominations, drama giant “Euphoria” gets 16.
In the Best Supporting Actor category alone, “Succession” won 3 nominations.
The actual awards ceremony takes place on September 12.
