Canada: At least 15 dead in a traffic accident

A trailer and a bus collided in the province of Manitoba in Canada.

At least 15 people have died after a major collision on a highway in Canada. This is confirmed by the Canadian police, writes ABC.

There was a trailer and a bus involved in the accident which occurred in Carberry in the province of Manitoba. According to Canadian public broadcaster CBC, there were 25 people on the bus, most of whom were retirees.

Nearby hospitals have prepared to receive the injured, Manitoba police wrote on Twitter.

Manitoba government spokesman Rob Hill said ten people have been taken to hospital so far, but the number could increase.

John Proven witnessed the great collision. He describes the experience as shocking.

– I have never seen such a big accident, he told Radio-Canada.

Several kilometers are closed, and the police ask motorists to avoid the area.

BIG ACTION: Manitoba authorities have called all available crews.

– This is a day that will be remembered in Manitoba and across Canada as a sad and tragic day, said Rob Hill.

The area’s emergency services carried out one of the largest rescue operations ever.

Photos from the scene show the train of wagons with a crushed and burned front, and what looks like a burned shell of the bus in a ditch, writes NTB.

The dead on the road are covered with blankets.

Tracy Leitch was driving the Trans-Canada Highway midday Thursday when she saw something had happened.

– Before arriving on the scene, we had seen a lot of smoke, she says CTV News.
