The Folloban went so wrong that it took three additional investigations to uncover everything. Why was Norway’s most expensive transport project derailed?
The short version
- Follobanen, Norway’s most expensive infrastructure project, had to be closed within a week of its opening in December 2021 due to several serious errors.
- Three investigations revealed that the cause was linked to poor management, organization and monitoring of the project.
- The reports highlight deficiencies in Bane Nor’s management of project risks and quality, insufficient involvement of specialist communities, lack of clarity in reporting lines and lack of internal control.
The summary is created using artificial intelligence (AI) and quality assured by Aftenposten journalists.
Folloban had to close a week after opening in December last year. For what? The Bane Nor board of directors also asked the question. They therefore ordered PWC to produce a separate report and an external investigation.
But it wasn’t enough. Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård (Ap) also wanted to shed light on what was wrong. A third report has emerged.
There are now quite a few pages to follow. 280, to be exact. These are the most serious findings.
