Ingvild Kjerkol will reduce health problems reported by children and young people by 25 percent
Over time, there has been a large increase in the number of children and young people reporting mental health problems. Today, Minister of Health and Care Ingvild Kjerkol presents a long-awaited intensified plan to prevent mental disorders among young people. One of the main goals is to reduce health problems reported by children and young people by 25 percent.
Among the concrete measures planned in the plan, which will only be presented in full on Friday at noon, it is specified that the Youth Guarantee, which will come into force on July 1, will guarantee that young people under the age of 30 who have need help to access the work-study program, benefit from a fixed contact and personalized support from NAV for as long as they need it.
Furthermore, more knowledge needs to be gained about the cause of the increase in self-reported mental health problems, in order to introduce targeted and effective measures.
A key goal of the plan is that all residents in all municipalities have access to low-threshold, knowledge-based services in the field of mental health and addiction. We must therefore study how to guarantee equal measures for low-threshold services in municipalities, including through legislation. Digital tools will also be developed, such as self-help tools or guided care on the Internet.
