Releases his first album in Sami
Not My Time to Die have big plans to release their debut album in Sami on March 24. Today they are releasing the first single from the record.
The single is called “Benne”, and according to guitarist Áslat Eira, is a tribute to his deceased dog.
In a press release it is mentioned that they had to do a little reshuffling in the ranks and change who is the leader of the record.
– I’m the only Sami-speaking person in the band, so it’s only natural that I sing on our songs in the Sami language, says Áslat, who usually only plays guitar.
– It’s a big blow to my ego, laughs leader Sander Persen Esperås.
Not My Time to Die plays technically sound hard rock with a hint of punk elements, and if “Benne” points to what’s to come on “Sáivu,” as the record is called, then there’s no something to be happy about.
They say themselves that they mature with the record. Eira describes it as a musical journey from childhood optimism to youthful apathy. He chooses the album’s title track and says it will be the band’s best song to date.
As well as drawing inspiration from the first Sami feature film, Ofelaš (The Wizard), the band claim that much of the text has a background of personal events.
– The disc contains a song called Boraspire (The Predator), which is about abuse in the nightlife. Unfortunately, this is not an unknown phenomenon for us or for many others who visit nightclubs on weekends, says Eira.
As part of the release, the band is holding two release concerts in Eira’s hometown, Kautokeino. Respectively, a concert for young people under 18 at Lounge Sápmi and a concert with ticket sales at Maras.
The group plans to tour throughout the year and hope, among other things, that Oslo audiences will have a taste after their performance at John Dee last year.
