The passengers on the plane stood up in their seats and screamed.

Panic broke out on a plane en route from the Dominican Republic to Canada when it turned out that two stowaways in the shape of two bird spiders had also joined the trip.

20 centimeters long

Bird spiders are a group of large spiders and can grow to the size of a dinner plate. Some of the larger species are used as food by some South American tribes, according to Wikipedia. It was a subspecies of the bird spider family called phormictopus cancerides, which can grow up to 20 centimeters long.

The sight of the two large, giant hairy spiders running across the cabin caused several passengers to jump up screaming from their seats, while cabin crew advised them to cover their ankles, writes News24.

– Shock

– A spider climbed up my leg, says one of the passengers, Catherine Moreau Radio-Canada.

– My husband managed to catch the spider in a plastic container, but it came out. My daughter cried and was in shock, she said.

And it’s not just the passengers, but also the cabin crew who would have been irritated by the spiders. According to Moreu, they didn’t know what to do and many of them didn’t dare approach the spiders.

Only one of the spiders was caught in the air, while the other was not captured until after the plane landed in Montreal.
