This is the sixth consecutive world championship in which Polish hammer throwers have won medals. For the first time since 2011, the Biało-Czerwoni did not win the hammer throw event at the World Cup. In Daegu, they did not get on the podium.
Since 2013, Fajdek has been the best of the last five championships in Moscow, Beijing, London, Doha and Eugene. In Budapest, his streak was interrupted.
Nowicki in Budapest won the 10th championship medal. His streak began at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. Later he won Olympics in Tokyo.
Katzberg, 21, became the world’s youngest hammer throw champion. The experienced Fajdek and Nowicki are already 34 years old.
Besides Fajdek and Nowicki, Polish medalists at the World Hammer Throw Championships were also Szymon Ziolkowski (one gold and two silver) and Zdzisław Kwaśny (one bronze). Whites and reds in the history of this competition have won the most World Cup medals – up to 14 (six gold, four silver, four bronze).
