There were no surprises in the quarter-finals of the Parapan American Games – Santiago 2023 goalball tournament in terms of results, but the semi-final draws heat up the action! Both in the men’s and women’s competitions.
Starting with the men’s tournament, the semi-final between the USA and Canada can give access to Paris 2024 if Brazil is the other finalist. Brazil is already qualified thanks to the World Championship place (gold medal), which means that even if Brazil becomes American champion, the continental place will receive the silver medal in Santiago 2023.
In women’s wrestling for Paris 2024, the most important semi-final will be between Brazil and Canada. In this case, only the American champion will have a ticket for the next Paralympic Games, but the two national teams (Brazil and Canada) are aiming for this objective, and only one can reach the final.
The Brazilian women’s team reached the “semi-finals” by beating the Peruvian team, who achieved their best performance of all the Games! The five stars of the Andes managed to score more goals in their last match (5) than in the entire rest of the competition (4).
Even before the final, Santiago will have the full attention of the goalball world following all the action at the Estadio Nacional de Chile Paralympic Sports Center.
