Granerud disappointed with Planica – lost ski flying cup at end of season

Halvor Egner Granerud was unable to defend his lead in the Ski Flying Cup when he finished a disappointing 13th place late in the season at Planica.
The 26-year-old landed 215.5 yards in the first round and had a lot to make up for in the final round. There he responded with a flight of 237 meters and climbed ten places. It still wasn’t enough to defend the ski flying cup lead.
Granerud led the Cup by ten points ahead of Austrian Stefan Kraft going into the final race of the season. The Austrian finished in third place and thus obtained the crystal ball for the third time.
Johann André Forfang was the top Norwegian in tenth place after dropping to 229.5 and 228.5 meters.
Robert Johansson (16th place), Bendik Heggli Jakobsen (25th), Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal (26th) and Daniel-André Tande (30th) were also in action at Planica.
On Saturday, a team competition and a ski flying race were organized in Planica.
In the team competition, Norway finished third after Austria and Slovenia. Forfang, Heggli, Johansson and Granerud formed the Norwegian team. The latter was also the best Norwegian when he took off for fourth place in the ski flying event.
Granerud has already won the World Cup overall. The 26-year-old is the first Norwegian in history to win the World Cup twice in total. He also went to the top in the 2020/21 season.
