YMCA stadium plans finally approved
These are good times for YMCA Oslo. Within a few days, the club moved to the Eliteserien for the first time and obtained the framework permit for a new arena.
The evolution of the stadium project is revealed in a press release from the YMCA.
“The Planning and Building Agency approves the application for the construction of the facility associated with the YMCA Familiearena, which we received on October 12, 2020,” the statement said.
– We experience absolutely fantastic days at the YMCA every day. Friday’s announcement means an incredible amount, both in terms of our investment at the top and in scale. Strictly speaking, this is the last approval we need to build what we have dreamed of for many years, says Thor-Erik Stenberg, general director of the YMCA.
All that remains is for the municipal council to approve the municipal guarantee. The club writes that this can hopefully take place at the end of November.
– The municipal guarantee is the financing, but it is this framework permit that we need to be able to build. Now it’s a matter of going full throttle with the detailed design, going over all the basics again. The final decision will then have to be made to actually launch construction, but in the current state of affairs, it should be realistic to be able to put the first works in the ground in the summer of 2024, estimates Stenberg.
The duration of the work is estimated between 18 and 24 months. The YMCA must therefore find other solutions for its territory in the meantime.
