American Coco Gauff did not give Austrian Julia Grabher a set at Roland Garros 2023 in Paris. In the next round, Canadian Bianca Andreescu entered.
Coco Gauff (WTA 6) reached two finals in singles and doubles at Roland Garros 12 months ago. She started this year’s singles appearance in Paris with a set loss to Spain’s Rebecca Masarova. In the second round, the American defeated Julia Grabher (WTA 61) 6-2, 6-3. The Austrian last week in Rabat recorded her first final on the WTA Tour.
The match lasted 68 minutes. Gauff returned three assists and converted six of his 10 break points. She won 11 of 14 points at net. The American hit 15 finishing touches with 19 unforced errors. Grabher has won nine consecutive balls and 27 errors.
For Gauff, 19, this is his 15th Grand Slam appearance. So far, he has qualified for the quarter-finals at least three times, including the last two editions of Roland Garros. A year ago in Paris, Iga Świątek only lost in the final. The teenagers will fight in the third round. The American’s rival will be the recently sensational Mirra Andreyeva (born in 2007).

Bianca Andreescu (WTA 42) beat Emma Navarro (WTA 75) 6-1, 6-4. In the second set, the Canadian by 2:4 won four games in a row. In 69 minutes, the 2019 US Open champion scored 23 of 30 points on her first serve. She was broken once and used five of her eight break points. She had 18 finishers and 16 unforced errors. Navarro was credited with 13 straight wins and 18 errors.
This is Andreescu’s 13th Grand Slam start. Apart from the 2019 US Open, she has only qualified for the round of 16 once, in New York in 2021. At Roland Garros, she reached the third round for the first time. The Canadian’s next opponent will be Lesia Tsurenko (WTA 66), who knocked out 2021 event champion Barbora Krejcikova to open. Thursday, the Ukrainian led 6-3, 1-0 with Lauren Davis (WTA 52), when the American scratched.
