Lars Christian Bacher has been appointed executive vice president of international development and production (UPI) of Statoil and will take up his new role on September 1, Statoil reported on Thursday.

Since the fall of 2009, Bacher has led Statoil’s operations in Canada, a sector that has received much attention in recent years due to the oil giant’s controversial Ojesand project.

Bacher succeeds Peter Mellbye, who is retiring after 30 years with the company.

The company’s new head of international development and production has worked at Statoil since 1991 and has held several management positions.

– Lars Christian Bacher takes responsibility for Statoil’s international development and production during an important period for the company. He has experience in different parts of the value chain, which includes external stakeholder management and international exposure. He brings strategic and operational experience to the management of Statoil, says CEO Helge Lund.
