During the Ice Hockey World Championships, a Hungarian fan was in the stands wearing a T-shirt with the word “Russia” written on it. The organizers told him to remove it. The case had a wide echo in Russia, where the Russian State Duma took up the case.
This year’s elite world championships are taking place in Finland and Latvia. During its duration, there is a total ban on presenting emblems related to Russia and Belarus. The ban was broken by one of the Hungarian fans. According to media in Finland, after the intervention of the organizers, the fan remained in the stands, but he no longer wore a white T-shirt with the inscription “Russia”.

Russian politicians took an interest in the case. It was commented on by Dmitry Svishchev, deputy of the State Duma, who presented the situation as pathological, since Ukrainian symbols are displayed during the championships. He urges a fan from the country of the Magyars to file a complaint, because according to him, he can easily win.
“He is a citizen of a free country who found himself in another free country, also a country that belongs to the European Union, and then he was not allowed to wear colors and to encourage the one which he chose,” he said.
This year’s elite world championships will take place May 12-28 in Tampere and Riga. The gold is defended by the Finnish team, who beat Canada last year in the grand final
