Belgium’s golden generation reached the quarter-finals in 2014 and won the bronze medal in 2018.

Today, TV 2 football expert Jesper Mathisen believes the 2022 World Cup is the last chance for the golden generation to win the World Cup.

Pillars Eden Hazard (31), Jan Vertonghen (35), Toby Alderweireld (33) and Dries Mertens (35) are likely to sing their last verse at the World Cup.

But even if the key players have aged, there is still a lot of class in the stable.

Kevin de Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois, as well as sometimes Romelu Lukaku, are at their peak. At the same time, there are very promising talents who have been selected for the championship.

National team captain Luka Modric won the Ballon d’Or after his World Cup performance four years ago. He is now 37, but the magician is still excelling for Real Madrid.

Marius Skjelbæk thinks Modric will do it in Qatar as well.

– Luka Modric was the WC’s best player four years ago, and this will be his last dance. But he’s alert and quick, and no worse than he was. Ronaldo has been impressing for a long time, and so has Messi, but Modric never gets worse.

Back in February, it was almost completely unlikely that Hakim Ziyech would play the World Cup for Morocco.

The Chelsea player has announced that he is ending his national team career. This when he is only 28 years old.

The reason was a dispute with then national team manager Vahid Halilhodzic. The national team manager claimed that Ziyech had bad attitudes and pretended to be injured.

This made Ziyech see red. He retired and Morocco seemed to be without their star during the World Cup. But when Halilhodzic was sacked later in 2022, it was quick to come back.

Two months before the World Cup, Ziyech was back in Morocco’s red jersey.

– They have a good football team, including players from PSG (Achraf Hakimi), Bayern (Noussair Mazraoui), Chelsea (Hakim Ziyech) and Sevilla (Yassine Bounou and Youssef En-Nesyri).

– Only Senegal is better ranked in the FIFA ranking of African countries in the World Cup. In a tough group, or “a small group of hipsters” as Jesper called it, Morocco will be exciting to follow.

For the first time since 1986, Canada will participate in the Men’s World Cup. To Qatar comes the hockey mad nation with its most talented generation of footballers ever.

Striker Jonathan David is scoring goals at Lille, midfielder Stephen Eustáquio is a Porto regular and Alphonso Davies – the biggest star of them all – is storming the wing at Bayern Munich.

– We did a lot of analysis on him for Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and I joke that he looks like the fastest player in the world. He’s as fast as he needs to be, both offensively and defensively, says Mathisen.

For Canada, the speedy 22-year-old has a much more attacking role than at Bayern. The team is described as technical with a lot of speed, where some players bring enormous experience.

Captain Atiba Hutchinson, 39, is the oldest player at the World Cup.

– I don’t think they will continue, but I certainly think they will charm us. We’ll see what the team has to offer when we start, Mathisen said.
