Latvia played their first match at this year’s World Championships and Arged BM Stali Ostrów Wielkopolski quarterback Aigars Skele also made his debut.

Latvia has seriously weakened, because without its biggest star, Kristaps Porzingis, but ambitious and courageous. The European team scored more than 100 points in the inaugural World Cup.

The Latvians of Jakarta, Indonesia beat Lebanon by 109:70. Dairis Bertans, 33, was very good, scoring 20 points in just 15 minutes, shooting 7 of 8 from the field.

Coach Luca Banchi certainly didn’t need to exploit his leaders on Friday. He let everyone play. This also applies to Arged BM player Stali Ostrów Wielkopolski. Aigars Skele had an excellent season in the PLK and was again called up to the national team this summer. He repays the trust placed in him.

Skele spent 15 minutes on the court and registered 10 points and two assists to his name. He was successful four of his five attempts from the field, including two on three three-pointers. Another Latvian, also known for his performances in Poland, Klavs Cavars had two rebounds and three assists, but finished the game without points.

However, it will be very difficult for Latvia to get out of the group. There are still matches against France and Canada ahead of them.

Skele is a Stal player and after the World Cup he will go straight to Ostrów Wielkopolski. The season in Poland starts on September 21.
