Venus Williams, 43, was due to play against Mirra Andreyeva, 27 years her junior, but the American legend, former number one in the rankings and winner of seven Grand Slam singles titles, withdrew from the tournament. Her place was taken by Tamara Korpatsch, who lost in qualifying to Fręch.
