Emil Ruusuvuori beat Ugo Humbert after two tie-breaks and will face Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament played on clay in Madrid. The qualifiers performed well.

Emil Ruusuvuori, 24, is at the forefront of the new wave of tennis players. The Finn was already in the top 30 of the world rankings and has several valuable successes to his credit. On Wednesday, he started competing in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, where he may also be tempted to make a significant result. He first beat Ugo Humbert 7-6(6), 7-6(4).

Ruusuvuori served nine aces, made 30 knockouts and converted one of two break points in two hours of play. Now the Finn’s bar will be much higher – in the second round he will face the top seed classified and title defending Carlos Alcaraz.

The qualifiers showed up on the right side on Wednesday night. Hugo Grenier beat Diego Schwartzman 7:5, 6:4 and his next rival will be number 22 Sebastian Korda. In his turn, in the duel of the elimination tennis players, Matteo Arnaldi defended the ball of the match and won with Benoit Paire. In the 1/32 final, Italy will face Casper Ruud, the “three” of the tournament.

Bornie Gojo failed to do so, losing to Thiago Monteiro. The Brazilian will play in the second round with Karen Khachanov, seeded number ten. ‘Lucky loser’ Paweł Kotow also dropped out of qualification, succumbing to Oscar Otte. The German will fight for promotion in the 1/16 final with the marked “18” Pablo Carreno.

Jaume Munar made local fans happy. The Spaniard, after a match in two sets, but which lasted almost two hours and 40 minutes, beat Thanasi Kokkinakis 7: 6 (7), 7: 6 (3). His next opponent will be Tallon Griekspoor, from the “30” tournament.
