Sammelvuo has been in charge of Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle since the start of the season, replacing Gheorghe Cretu. The Champions League winners have had a difficult start to the season, with three of the last seven league games and one defeat in the Polish Super Cup clash. However, the club accepted the proposal of the Canadian federation and allowed the coach to combine the two functions.
“Coaching the Canadian national team this summer will be another big challenge for me. First of all, I would like to thank the club and the president for their understanding. I believe that we can create cooperation between ZAKSA and the Canadian national team. Of course, this will not affect my work in ZAKS – admitted the coach in an interview with the official club portal Kędzierzyn.
It’s another representative episode in the career of the former titled player, and now coach. In 2013-18, Sammelvuo led the Finnish team, and in 2019-2022 he combined his work at Zenit Petersburg with the function of head coach of the Russian national team.
