– I know Atle is not racist, but what he did here was 100% racist.
So said comedian Johan Golden during the taping of this week’s episode of “Nytt på nytt.” Golden is a very close friend of Atle Antonsen, and the two worked closely together for several years, including on the radio show ‘Misjonen’ on P4.
Program manager Bård Tufte Johansen has also worked closely with Antonsen in the past. He followed Golden’s comment:
– If you steal a piece of jewelry, that doesn’t mean you didn’t need to steal it, you’re still a thief, Johansen said.
Author and social debater Sumaya Jirde Ali hit out at Atle Antonsen for racism on Tuesday this week.
– It is a very bad day for all those who believe that racism does not exist in Norway. They struggle, Golden continued.
NRK asked Antonsen if he wanted to respond to comments on the recording. He referred to his lawyer. NRK could not get a response from the lawyer.
Much of the “Nytt på nytt” recording was devoted to berating Antonsen’s behavior.
NRK Nyheter was present during the recording, which lasts two hours. It will be reduced to half an hour, so it is not certain that everything that appeared will end up in the television broadcast.
Neither Golden, nor presenter Bård Tufte Johansen, nor comedian Pernille Sørensen would comment on the case beyond what was revealed during the taping of this week’s episode of “New again” on Thursday. evening.
– The only one to blame is Sumaya
– I wonder if I did wrong to explain to Atle that I have darker skin than him, said Golden.
– It’s easy to think I’ve done too bad a job. Atle is such a good friend that I feel like I’m in a Haddy Njie situation, I’m stuck, he continued.
Golden also gave his full support to Sumaya Jirde Ali:
– There’s only one person to blame here, and that’s Sumaya. She was scolded all her life, she received death threats. Then she goes to have fun one evening and then she gets scolded by an old comedian.
– She deserves the King’s Medal of Merit, and by that I mean the King and not ‘The King Commands,’ Golden said in reference to the Discovery show with Atle Antonsen as the presenter.
– Like a family
Golden also explained that he needed to tell his son about the episode.
– Atle is like a family, like a brother. My son is going to hear about it, explained Golden, who says his son reacted in disbelief: “Uncle Atle, did he say that?!”
– So I had to explain to him that you shouldn’t always listen to what these uncles say, continued Golden.
bad mood
“Nytt på nytt” colleague Pernille Sørensen also took the opportunity to comment on the matter.
– Atle himself said in his apology that it was a silly attempt at a joke. I think if there was a joke, he must have found it in a German joke book from 1943. At least not from this century, Sørensen said.
– Good laughter comes mostly from what is said that is reminiscent of a joke. And that wasn’t it here, says Sørensen.
– From a purely humorous point of view, it’s not about timing, you have to work with the content and not start by yelling in people’s faces. And then I think Atle should change the joke, she continued.
To the web
Sørensen also commented on all netizens who followed the episode.
– Atle misbehaved. Then it’s Sumaya who gets all the crap in her inbox from the darkest basements in this country, Sørensen said and concluded:
– We can’t have it like this.
Antonsen apologized for the ensuing incitement and called it “reprehensible”.
Several of the show’s humorous elements also referenced the episode between Ali and Antonsen. Among other things, presenter Bård Tufte Johansen said “Team Antonsen is back”, followed by a clip of people who looked like the Ku Klux Klan.
Another feature reads as follows:
“Sumaya Jirde Ali is reporting Atle Antonsen to the police for hate speech. Since he is a celebrity, the police are considering making an exception and investigating the matter.”
Expect reactions
Project manager Kjetil Kooyman says there are extensive editorial reviews behind the “New again” show.
– When we review news stories for “New again”, we look for instances where you can criticize the power or say something important about somewhat larger societal issues. We think this case has: Such a prospect, says Kooyman.
– Do you expect reactions?
– Yes, we always have a lot of reactions after the broadcasts of “New again” and we think it’s fair and important. You have to allow people to react and express what they think of the program. It’s an important part of our mission, that people can express what they think, whether it’s praise or criticism, says Kooyman.
– Is it For seriously kidding?
– No it’s not that. It’s so serious must joke, maybe.
– Is it something Is it too serious to joke?
– This is a question we are often asked, and it is a bit strange. It is important to joke correctly. Then people watch the program to see if we do it.
Reported for racism
It was on Tuesday this week that author and social debater Sumaya Jirde Ali denounced comedian Atle Antonsen for hate speech.
The incident, in which Antonsen allegedly made racist remarks against Ali, allegedly took place at Bar Boca in Oslo on the night of October 23 this year.
According to Ali, Antonsen would have, among other things, shouted “shut your mouth” and said that “you are too dark skinned to be here”.
Ali posted about the incident in a post on his own Facebook profile.
Antonsen apologized for what happened on the evening in question, also the Facebook.
“What was supposed to be an enjoyable evening ended in disaster,” Antonsen, among others, wrote in the post.
In addition, he specifies that he will re-evaluate his relationship with alcohol.
“There is no excuse that the silly comments were some sort of attempted joke. Because what I said was just stupid. Full stop,” he wrote later in the post.
The case has been thoroughly investigated and the prosecution decision is expected to be ready shortly.
