On Sunday morning, the Whites and the Reds played an exciting match against the Brazilians and ultimately lost in the tie-break. The situation on the table is therefore as follows: two rounds from the end of the World Cup, the Canarinhos are in the lead with 26 points, while the Poles are four points behind. Only the mistakes of the previously undefeated rivals and the victory of the last two matches would give Heynen’s team the much-desired gold.

– The Brazilians beat us now, but we will take revenge next year. We have proven that we can play at a high level and we are certainly happy about that, said Polish representative Wilfredo Leon after the match against Brazil.

– We played a good match, it’s just a shame that we came off the field defeated. We failed to play to the best of our abilities in a single set. In the other matches we rose to the challenge, which is certainly a good thing, because it is the end of the national team’s season – added center Mateusz Bieniek.

On Monday, our opponent will be one of the worst performing teams in the tournament, that is, Canada. The North American team has four wins and five losses and, of course, will not be favorites in the meeting with the reigning world champions. However, we must not forget that on the last day of the World Cup, the Poles’ opponents will be the Iranians.

Theoretically, a more difficult task awaits the Brazilians, who will first face hosts Japan, who are currently in fourth place, and then face Italy, sixth in the standings, but one of the world leaders for years.

It’s rather difficult to expect the previously infallible Canarinhos to fail twice in the final, but hope dies last. We may still be overtaken by the American representatives, who are two points behind us. It is certain that to think about gold medals, victories over the last two opponents will be necessary. Will we be able to take the first step Monday morning to end the national team season in style?
