Last week, Women’s National Team coach Hege Riise expressed concern ahead of this summer’s World Championships in Australia and New Zealand.
She still didn’t know when she could get the team together and begin preparations for the championship.
Riise wanted to call on the foreign professionals in question on June 20 and travel to New Zealand with the entire team on July 4.
The problem was that the ECA (European Club Association) wrote in a statement that they did not want the teams to be called up until July 10, so that they would have a holiday after the season.
– I hope they come to their senses, because if we travel ten days before the first game, it’s not good from a health point of view, Riise told TV 2.
On Wednesday, Fifa issued a press release with good news for the Norway national team manager.
In the press release, it seems that July 10 is still the mandatory release date, but together with ECA, Fifa has come to the conclusion that players can still join national teams earlier.
They arrived on a non-binding release date of June 23-29. This means that as long as Norway receives permission from the players’ clubs.
– I consider it a good solution that was made in collaboration with many people involved, says Hege Riise and underlines that clubs and associations have been involved in the process.
– Player health is important, we all agree on that.
– We get to do some of what we planned. Now we will plan based on the press release that just came in, so that we are well prepared for the WC, says Riise.
Norway will start on July 20 against hosts New Zealand in Auckland.
